NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - The 52nd annual Wurstfest kicked off in New Braunfels on Friday.
Frank Witting, one of the organizers of the German heritage festival, said the great weather on Friday was perfect for opening day and he's hoping that the same weather will stick around to give everyone a chance to enjoy the festival.
Rachel Moreno, who is from New Braunfels, waited in line with her grandson an hour before Wurstfest opened the gates to the public.
"We've been out there since three o'clock," said Moreno. "So we're just ready to eat those pork chops. I always bring my grandson."
And the food, Witting said, is really the highlight of Wurstfest every year.
"You have to try the sausage on a stick," Witting said. "And you have to try the fried Oreos."
Wurstfest 2012 will also have plenty of polka music, special performances and a lot of German beer.
Wurstfest will run from Nov. 2 to 11.
Festival admission is $8, but if purchased by Nov. 3, you can get tickets for $6.
