Ailing mother searching for son's killer

Joe Trevino, 17, killed at party 5 years ago

SAN ANTONIO - Patricia Lozano fears she may die before investigators find her teenage son's killer.

Her son, 17-year-old Joe Trevino, was shot and killed at a party five years ago.

Currently on dialysis, she has instructed family members to continue the search for justice if she no longer can.

"I hope I can be here to see justice for Joe," Lozano said. "In case I pass, I've told my kids to continue (working with) Crime Stoppers until they find who did it."

Lozano's adopted son went to a party with friends on Nov. 4, 2007, at a home in the 300 block of Landa Avenue.

Around 2 a.m., someone shot him in the head at close range, police said.

At the time, investigators believed Trevino was shot by a gang member who was at the party.

Lozano said she's heard many stories over the years but none of them add up.

"Maybe they're looking at the wrong suspect because of all the different stories I hear from people but no one ever comes forward and says it was this person or anything," Lozano said.

Lozano believe there were many witnesses at the party that know who pulled the trigger.

She said she just needs one of them to be brave and come forward to police.

"They know who it was. They're just afraid to speak up," Lozano said. "Look into your heart and come forward and say what happened and who did it. If not for me but for Joe."

This weekend would have been Trevino's 23rd birthday. Family members will be gathering at his grave to mark the day.

If you know anything about this cold case homicide you are urged to contact San Antonio Police or Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP. They are offering up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the killer.
