Witnesses: Chihuahua thrown out of car, dumped at ACS
Animal Care Services staff witnessed illegal dog dumping in ACS parking lot
SAN ANTONIO - San Antonio Animal Care Services staff said they witnessed a case of illegal dog dumping at their facility Friday.
They said a Chihuahua was thrown from a car and dumped in the ACS parking lot off Highway 151.
According to ACS spokeswoman Lisa Norwood, a man had come to the front door of the facility, located at 4710 State Highway 151, to dump the female Chihuahua early Friday morning.
Norwood said the man was told to come back after 11 a.m., during regular hours.
As he drove away, Norwood said the man tossed the dog over his shoulder and nearly hit the animal with his car.
The dog immediately ran toward the Highway 151 access road.
“She was so scared when we got her off the highway, but now she’s wagging her tail, she’s giving kisses,” Norwood said.
ACS staff members recorded the man’s license plate number and plan to file charges.
“Animal dumping is illegal in the city of San Antonio,” Norwood said. “It is against the law. It is also never an option when it comes to doing something about a pet that for whatever reason you no longer want anymore. So people need to understand that doing something like this is an act of cruelty.”
The Chihuahua was given a veterinary examination around 10 a.m. Friday. A veterinarian determined she was sterile and ready for adoption.
"We’re naming her Hope because we’re hopeful that she’s going to be able to find a new home,” Norwood said. “She’s a wonderful pet and we’re still at a loss as to why somebody would do something like this.”
