SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Police Department released surveillance video Tuesday afternoon from the May 28, 2011, murder of 46-year-old Lorena Mendoza Smith, hoping for new leads.
Crime Stoppers is also offering up to $5,000 for information leading to arrest of suspects.
Smith was in her car talking with a friend in the parking lot between Hooters and Club Rio near Highway 281 and Bitters Road around 3:30 a.m. May 28, 2011, when a red Toyota RAV4 pulled up next to her vehicle.
"An unknown suspect came up to the window (and) knocked (but) they didn't open the window," said San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar. "The suspect reportedly shot into the vehicle several times and Ms. Smith was shot once in the neck and once in the shoulder."
The suspects sped out of the parking lot and Smith later died at a hospital from her wounds.
Police still don't have a motive in the shooting and hope the video and the possible $5,000 reward are enough to get people talking.
"We'd love to try to get some fresh leads going," said Salazar. "If anyone can offer any shred of information, even if they don't think it's that important. It just might be the thing to break this case wide open."
Anyone with information can call SAPD at 207-7273 or Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP (7867). Calls can be anonymous.
