Pedro Villa accused of trying to pry open bank ATM with screwdriver
Crime Stoppers tip leads to Pedro Villa’s arrest
SAN ANTONIO - A Crime Stoppers tip has led to the arrest of Pedro Villa, 28, who is suspected of trying to pry open a bank’s automatic teller machine with a screwdriver, San Antonio police said. Villa was arrested Wednesday on a charge of attempted theft.
Police believe Villa is the man seen in surveillance photos, at first, using the ATM to make a withdrawal on Aug. 26.
They said a few minutes later, he’s seen backing up his Chevy Suburban, then using a screwdriver to try to open the machine, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
At the time when this happened, police said, Villa had his wife and daughter in the SUV with him, the affidavit stated.
Detectives aired the surveillance photos on local TV stations last month and received several tips pointing them toward Villa, the affidavit stated.
Police said during questioning, detectives reviewed Villa’s cell phone and found a picture text message from his wife, warning him that he had been seen on TV and featured in a Crime Stoppers report.
