White House asks America to choose National Turkey
The contenders: Gobbler & Cobbler
SAN ANTONIO - The White House tradition of choosing a National Turkey to pardon and keep from the dinner table is going to the people this year.
The two contenders, Gobbler and Cobbler, are Virginia-bread birds.
According to their bios, Gobbler is the bigger turkey who rarely gobbles but when he does, it's loud. He has a patient but proud walk. His favorite food is corn. His favorite song is anything with a fiddle.
Cobbler is frequent but quiet gobbler. He struts when he walks. His favorite food is cranberries. His favorite song is Carly Simon's "You're So Vain."
Voters are encouraged to go to The White House's Facebook page and like their favorite bird.
The White House website said both turkeys will live at George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate. And, "if for any reason one turkey is unable to perform the duties of the National Thanksgiving Turkey, his alternate will take his place during the National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation."
