BROWNSVILLE, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers Tuesday seized back-to-back loads of suspected cocaine valued at $1 million, according to authorities.

The seizures happened as officers faced holiday traffic at two international bridges in Brownsville, CBP said.

The larger of the two seizures occurred Tuesday at the B&M Bridge. CBP officers referred a 2005 Toyota Solara driven by an 18-year-old female U.S. citizen from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico for a secondary inspection, authorities said.

According to CBP, officers found eight bundles containing a total of 20.4 pounds of alleged cocaine hidden within the vehicle. The cocaine has an estimated street value of $614,000, authorities said.

The other cocaine seizure occurred at the Veterans’ International Bridge. CBP said an officer referred a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck driven by a 42-year-old male Mexican citizen from Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico for a secondary inspection. CBP said officers discovered eight bundles containing a total of 14.4 pounds of alleged cocaine hidden within the vehicle. According to authorities, the cocaine has an estimated street value of $434,000.

CBP said both drivers in the two seizures were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation. The narcotics and the vehicles were seized by CBP, authorities said.

“Our frontline officers demonstrated their vigilance, inspection skills and ongoing commitment to CBP’s border security mission by seizing more than $1 million in cocaine in back to back enforcement actions,” said Michael Freeman, CBP port director in Brownsville.
