Consumer Reports tests toasters
Cuisinart, Hamilton Beach beat celebrity-endorsed toasters
If you're going to test toasters, you've got to brown a lot of bread.
That's exactly what Consumer Reports did to test dozens of toasters, including a couple with celebrity or TV names behind them.
They tested for even toasting and consistency from batch to batch.
Celebrity chef's Gordon Ramsay's toaster rated worst of the bunch.
Food Network's toaster, sold at Kohl's, wasn't great at making multiple batches.
As for the Nostalgia Electrics Egg'n'Muffin Toaster that lets you cook bacon or fry at egg while it toasts; testers found the griddle very slow.
Which toaster was tops? Cuisinart's CPT 420 was top-rated. It's $80.
For less than half the price at $35, testers recommended the Hamilton Beach Digital 22502.
