Meals on Wheels serves Thanksgiving to elderly

Hundreds of seniors benefit from Meals on Wheels

SAN ANOTNIO - Meals on Wheels served up hot turkey dinners to hundreds of San Antonio residents Thanksgiving Day, a massive effort that took more than 1,000 volunteers.

"I think everybody deserves to eat on Thanksgiving," 13-year-old volunteer AJ Stevenson said.

His 10-year-old younger brother, Aaron, said, "It's actually kind of fun to do. We could be home or we could be here. I'd rather be here."

While Aaron and his big brother were keeping food warm, 10-year-old Cassandra Resler was doing a little food prep.

"Then we're going to load them up in trucks and then take them to homes of elderly, so then if they don't have family to help cook them Thanksgiving dinner, they can still have Thanksgiving dinner," Resler said.

After hours in the kitchen, they were off, driving from one home to the next.

First stop, the home of Betty and Raul Perez.

"I think it's wonderful. So generous. So kind. And especially on Thanksgiving, this is wonderful, thank you," Perez said.

More than 1,000 volunteers pitched in to help.
