Bandera couple killed Sunday in murder-suicide

Bandera County SO: Husband-wife recently had divorced

BANDERA, Texas - Bandera County Sheriff’s deputies Sunday found the bodies of 49-year-old Hamilton Storrie IV and his 39-year-old ex-wife, Jennifer, in the driveway of the home they still shared.

The couple had married in 2004, then divorced last October.

Sheriff’s Capt. Shane Merritt said Hamilton Storrie first shot and killed Jennifer (pictured), before turning the weapon on himself.

“Completely out of the blue that something this dramatic or tragic or violent would happen,” said Brick Gibson, owner of Brick’s River Café, where Jennifer Storrie had worked for two years.

Gibson said he and her co-workers were only aware of Storrie’s troubled marriage.

“No physical indications or anything like that,” Gibson said.

Although the sheriff’s office responded to a report of domestic disturbance at the couple’s home in May, Merritt said, “Since no assault occurred, neither one of them wanted to file charges against each other.”

Gibson said Jennifer Storrie had a “servant’s heart,” always willing to help others -- to the point that she even allowed her ex-husband to stay at her home, paying rent because he had no place to go.

Merritt said Hamilton Storrie had been arrested for public intoxication in 2005 and again in early October for meth possession. He also said Storrie had two outstanding warrants in Bexar County for failure to appear in 2005 and most recently involving a child support case.

Gibson said he and his employees are wearing purple and white ribbons  in remembrance of Jennifer Storrie.

Her employer said he urges others to seek out relationships grounded in compassion, “instead of those who have the ability and capability of having the rage and hatred in their hearts to do something like this.”

He said if they do find themselves in that situation, “Get away from them at all costs.”
