SA man beaten to death in Wisconsin
Police: Ryan Smith beaten over failed drug deal
SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio man died Saturday of his injuries at the University of Wisconsin hospital after being beaten with a bat last Monday.
WKOW-TV reported Ryan Smith, a graduate of Lee High School in San Antonio, had met with Koalton Peterson, 18, to attempt to buy some marijuana.
A problem ensued, investigators said, causing Smith to hit Peterson, who countered with multiple swings of a bat to the back of Smith’s head.
Smith was remembered by family and friends in San Antonio Monday as a good guy who was always smiling.
“Everyone who knew him, who went to school with him, who worked with him, really liked him,” said Adam Moore, a close friend of Smith’s.
Smith had moved to the San Antonio area from Wisconsin with his family when he was in the seventh grade.
He moved back north after his senior year, but had plans to come back to San Antonio permanently.
A celebration of his life will be held at St. Gregory’s church on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Any donations collected during the service will go towards paying for Smith’s funeral.
