Forklift falls into Guadalupe River, traps diver

Diver flown to San Antonio hospital, trapped underwater for an hour


SAN ANTONIO - A diver was hospitalized Monday afternoon after he reportedly became trapped underwater by a forklift that fell into the Guadalupe River.

The accident occurred around noon Monday about a mile downriver from Schumacher Crossing.

According to the Kerrville Daily Times, The forklift was being used to build a pier on private property when slipped into the water.

The diver was reportedly working on the construction project installing the piers.  

Kerrville paramedics and the dive team responded and kept air supplied to the diver until a wrecker pulled the forklift out of the water.

The diver was underwater for up to an hour and flown to a San Antonio Hospital for treatment, the Kerrville Daily Times reported.

Kerr County sheriff's officials told the newspaper another diver was also injured in the accident and taken to a nearby hospital.

Sheriff's officials said they did not know what caused the forklift to go into the water.
