Armed man robs SW Side Goodwill on Southwest Military Drive
SAN ANTONIO - An armed robber held up the Goodwill store at Southwest Military Drive and Zarzamora just before the store was set to open Tuesday morning. .
Police said at least two employees and a manager were getting ready to open the store at around 7:45 a.m., when the gunman made his way inside.
"When a young lady went to open up the back door, the suspect came in the back door and forced his way in," said San Antonio police Sgt. Javier Salazar. "He was carrying what appeared to be a long rifle."
Salazar said the suspect demanded to see the store manager. At that point, the employee alerted other employees, who called 911.
The employees and the manager were able to get away, uninjured.
Police believed the gunman was still inside when they arrived at the scene and blocked off the area.
A portion of Zarzamora was shut down, area businesses were cordoned off and part of the South Park Mall parking lot was cleared.
After a thorough search with using K-9 units, it was discovered the suspect had fled the scene.
Police believe the man left empty handed.
As of Tuesday at noon, the suspect remained at-large. Investigators said he was wearing dark clothes and had dark paint on his face to hide his features.
