San Antonio International Airport TSA agents catch strange, dangerous items
Agents confiscate everything from guns to turtles
SAN ANTONIO - TSA officers stay vigilant in their search for illicit material headed onboard airplanes, but what they find in those suitcases may surprise you.
“So far this year, we’ve found Tasers, ninja throwing stars, an AR-15-style Airsoft gun, to name just a few,” said Charles Honore, a supervisor at the airport.
The strangest, he said, was a live turtle stuffed in a suitcase after the passenger said he found it along the road on the way to the airport.
That’s not to mention the 26 guns and numerous knives confiscated by Honore’s team so far this year.
“We’re surprised on a pretty regular basis what people try and get on board,” said Honore.
San Antonio is not alone, however, as can be seen here, at the humorously written TSA blog.
The agency writes a "week in review" post once a week, about the items they’ve confiscated.
This week, the list includes a rocket launcher.
Honore said most people, however, just forget about certain items were in the bag, and his officers are understanding of that.
But with guns, the agency has a zero-tolerance policy, and arrests anyone in possession of one on-site.
