SAN ANTONIO - People in San Antonio are keeping the community of Newtown, Connecticut in their hearts and minds by holding a special prayer vigil.
Dozens of residents gathered Saturday afternoon at the Oblate School of Theology's Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto in the 5700 block of Blanco Road to pray not only for the victims of the school shooting in Connecticut, but also for the surviving family members.
Organizers said in remembering the 20 children and 6 adults who were killed on Friday, they are also praying that something like this will not happen again.
Toni McKnight-Adams, who attended Saturday's prayer vigil, said even though the tragedy happened miles away, they felt that something should be done here.
"It can happen to anyone," said McKnight-Adams. "So, what we're going to take away from this is, hug your children, love your children and let them know everything is going to be alright."
Organizers of the vigil will continue to hold a prayer service everyday at the Grotto for the next 19 days.
Sunday's service is scheduled for 3 p.m.
