Suspected drunk driver hits van head-on

Witness: Driver almost swerved into pedestrians on South Presa Street

SAN ANTONIO - A crash caused by a suspected drunk driver shut down South Presa Street between Chicago Boulevard and Topeka Boulevard around 6:30 pm Tuesday.

The driver of a white Ford Explorer, who officers say was intoxicated, hit a minivan head-on.

A witness says he saw the driver of the Ford Explorer swerving -- nearly hitting several pedestrians -- before the crash.

“He turned right on Presa and was completely driving in the northbound lane even though he was driving southbound,” said Gilbert Espinoza.

Espinoza followed the driver hoping to stop him as he called 911. He witnessed the crash and then ran to help the driver of the Ford Explorer, while his friend tended to the woman in the van.

The female driver was taken to the hospital with a broken leg. The suspected drunk driver was arrested.
