SAN ANTONIO - A 5-year-old girl who was the subject of a search by police in her near West side neighborhood Monday morning has been found safe and sound.
San Antonio police said relative reported the child missing around 5 a.m. Monday after noticing she wasn’t in her home in the 100 block of Rio Verde.
Police responded, launching an all-out search of the neighborhood, using dogs, a helicopter and officers on foot with flashlights to comb the area.
About 30 minutes into their search, they received a message from the child’s mother, saying that she had the girl with her, according to a sergeant on the scene.
Police said the mother had arrived at the home with the child, and another relative assumed she was going to leave the girl there.
However, when the relative went to use a restroom, the mother left, taking the girl with her, police said.
When the relative noticed the child was not in the home, she alerted police.
Officers waited at the home until the mother returned with the girl.
