SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio mother is desperate for answers after her son was gunned down in front of a West Side apartment complex.
It happened on Oct. 14, 2012 in the 2500 block of Westward.
Sandra Gonzales said she got a call from her son, Daniel Gonzales, 29, that afternoon and it was the last time she talked to him.
"He had called me that he would be there like in 30 minutes," said Sandra Gonzales. "But not even 30 minutes later, I got a call that he had got shot."
Daniel Gonzales left work and stopped by his younger brother's apartment to visit.
His mother said that's when a man pulled up in front of the complex.
She said her three sons were outside talking and they thought the man was going to ask for directions.
Instead, he reached down for a shotgun and started firing at them. All three brothers fled, but Daniel didn't make it.
"He ran over there and he was shot in the back of the head," said Gonzales. "He didn't even have a chance."
She said her two surviving sons had never seen the shooter and that, to do this day, they still don't know why he shot her son. She said losing him right before the holidays has been extremely painful for the entire family.
"The holidays were real hard for all of us because he was always there making us laugh," said Krystal Gonzales, the victim's sister. "This holiday we were just quiet. We did it for the kids of course, but we just miss him."
Sandra Gonzales said she is hoping that somebody saw something or may know something that will put the man who shot her son behind bars.
"I just want them to find this person that did this," she said. "That's all I want."
The victim's brother said the shooter was bald, had a goatee and was driving a dark blue Suburban. And, as far as they could tell, he was the only person in the SUV.
