SAN ANTONIO - A man was recovering Friday after he slammed his car head-on into a tree.

But investigators said that tree may have prevented him from driving into Woodlawn Lake.

The accident happened just after midnight on South Josephine Tobin Drive at Cincinnati.

Police say the driver hit the tree after he ran a stop sign but the car stopped there and not in the lake.

He was taken to University Hospital in stable condition and was not believed to be wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the accident is under investigation but police say speed may be a factor.
