SAPD: Carjacking, shooting victim probably knew his killer
Christopher Hinojos, 18, was shot multiple times in neighborhood near UTSA
SAN ANTONIO - Christopher Hinojos, 18, the man who was shot dead in a Northwest side neighborhood near the UTSA campus, may have known his killer, San Antonio police said.null
Hinojos died outside a home in the 300 block of Allendale Oak around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses told police the victim had been shot in the hand by a man who he said was taking his car, according to a police report.
After Hinojos knocked on the door of the home, seeking help, the gunman drove up again, got out of the stolen vehicle and fired several more shots, killing him, the report said.
Neighbors on the street, which is home to many UTSA students, described how they were awakened by the commotion.
"I heard, I guess, one shot. It really didn't sound like much, like someone hit a garage door or something,” said Nate Brunette, a UTSA student who lives nearby. “I really didn't think much of it. And then I heard three back-to-back (gunshots) a few seconds later."
Brunette said his roommate came home around the same time, frantically yelling that someone had been shot and urging him to dial 911.
"So I called them and they came. And he went out and checked his pulse,” Brunette said.
By Wednesday morning, the police cars had left the scene but there were still telltale signs of the violence that happened.
Yellow crime scene tape still draped a neighbor’s backyard fence, and dried blood and bullet holes covered the door of the home where Hinojos fell and died.
Police said it does not appear the victim had any connection to the people who live in the home.
However, they said it appears he and the shooter did know each other.
Detectives are looking for Hinojos’ stolen vehicle, a 2001 brown or tan Toyota Camry.
It has a Texas license plate of BZ4G811.
Anyone who sees the car is asked to call the San Antonio Police Department’s homicide division at 210-207-7635, or Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP.
