SAN ANTONIO - A John Jay High School student in a legal fight over wearing a required identification tracking badge will start attending classes at another Northside Independent School District campus on Tuesday.

A Jan. 8 federal court ruling required Andrea Hernandez to either wear the student ID without the tracking chip or return to her home campus by Jan. 18.

A district spokesman said Hernandez did not accept the non-tracking ID option.

"So there is no interruption in the student's education, we expect her to register at Taft High School, her home campus, Tuesday morning to begin the second semester," said district spokesman Pascual Gonzalez. "She has been withdrawn from the Jay Science & Engineering Academy."

Hernandez has appealed the local federal court ruling. She has refused to wear the tracking badge because she has said it violates her religious beliefs.
