Consumer Reports tests paints

New Clark and Kensington gets top ratings

A fresh coat of paint can give you house a whole fresh, new look.

While you'll have to choose the color, Consumer Reports tested 65 paints to help you choose a brand.

The highest scores went to a new brand called Clark and Kensington, sold at Ace Hardware. The self-priming paint sells for about $33 a gallon.  It topped the ratigns in the satin finish, semi-gloss and flat finish.    They left a smooth finish, resisted stains and held up to scrub brushes.

Consumer Reports also recommended several paints sold at Home Depot and Lowes. Those included Behr Premium Plus Ultra Enamel for about $30 a gallon, Glidden Premium for $25 a gallon and Valspar Signature for $33 a gallon.

None of the top picks cost less than $20 a galloon, so Consumer Reports recommended skipping super economy paints.
