A local woman pleaded to the community to help her find the driver who hit and killed her brother Friday night.

It happened on Christmas Eve in the 1500 block of Goliad Road.

Susie Blancas said she will never forget seeing her brother, Bernardo Rodriguez, 49, lying on the street.

"I just wanted to go get him," she said. "Pick him up and tell him to wake up, get up."

Blancas said Rodriguez had left her house on Christmas Eve to get something for his daughter at the Valero Gas Station down the street, but he never came back.

When they went to look for him, she said she saw that there was some type of accident, but at first, she didn't think that it was her brother who had been hit.

"I saw this body on the floor," she said. "Then, I saw the boots and I recognized them. Those are Junior's boots. My son said, 'No, there's a lot of boots like that.' I said, 'No. Those are junior's boots.'"

Blancas said the police told them that there were no break marks on the street, leading her to believe that Rodriguez had just stepped off the sidewalk to cross the street when he was struck and killed.

Police said whoever hit him didn't stay at the scene.

"It hurts me a lot," said Blancas. "No matter what, you don't know how it feels until you lose somebody."

Police said Rodriguez may have been hit by a cream colored Cadillac, which also had damage to the windshield.

Crimestoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call (210) 224-STOP. Callers may remain anonymous.
