Owner of El Mirador restaurant dies at 102

Maria Trevino remembered as more than just a restaurant owner

They were her customers and employees. But more importantly, they were her friends whom she loved dearly.

That is how Maria Trevino was being remembered during a reception at the restaurant Monday following her funeral.

“Being with her one-on-one was just magical," said long-time friend and customer Rosemary Catacalos.

Trevino worked almost daily at the restaurant until she was 98 years old, said her son, Julian Trevino.

He said his parents began the restaurant in their home during the depression and worked hard at making it one of the city’s most popular Mexican restaurant.

“Hard work for them was not an enemy, it was not something to be feared,” Trevino said. “They had a passion for it and they loved what they did. ... Whenever people came here, they wanted them to feel as if they were eating in their own home.”
