Sheriffs: Man in truck offers students money, ride in truck

Man offered ride to students in pickup truck at bus stop, says officials

The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office says a man in his pickup truck approached several students on Friday and offered them money to take a ride in his vehicle.

According to officials, a deputy who was working security at Navarro ISD was informed the students were approached by an older white male in his pickup truck in the Elm Grove area at a school bus stop.

The deputy contacted the office's Criminal Investigation Division, which prompted the start of an investigation, said officials.

The Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office said they were able to develop a suspect and reached out to the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers and New Braunfels Police Department for assistance in developing further information on the suspect.

Initial information that was acquired during an investigation led by the office suggested that a possible abduction attempt was made. Although further investigation has occurred, officials said the intent of the man is still unknown and the case remains under investigation.

Officials said they have taken precautions to ensure the safety of the children riding the bus to school and back home in the Elm Grove area and Guadalupe County Area.

Sheriffs say surrounding agencies have also been notified so they can also be proactive and safeguard children.
