Man accused of stealing dozens of cell phones from North Star Mall

San Antonio police: Stolen cell phones valued at $24,000

SAN ANTONIO - Northwest side resident Willie James Cleveland, 32, is accused of stealing dozens of cell phones from a kiosk at North Star Mall in January.

San Antonio police conducted a traffic stop shortly after the theft on Jan. 27 and said they found 39 of the 40 stolen phones in Cleveland’s car, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. The phones are valued at more than $24,000, the affidavit stated.

Cleveland was arrested at the time on a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. A theft charged was added this past Wednesday.

Police said they returned the phones to the owner after he identified them through their serial numbers, the affidavit stated.
