Girl, 7, hosts garage sale to benefit homeless
A 7-year-old girl is looking to make a big difference by raising money to help the homeless.
Kayli Hernandez, 7, is organizing a benefit garage sale and all the proceeds are going to Christian Assistance Ministry.
"When Kayli said to her mom, 'I want to sell some of my items to help the homeless,' her mom gave us a call," said Dawn White, with Christian Assistance Ministry.
Connie Hernandez, Kayli's mother, put together the benefit garage sale on Friday and more than a hundred people showed up to help.
"I think that's just so great," said Diana Vela, who came to support Kayli Hernandez. "Something above her. She's not thinking about herself. I think that's wonderful. I remember when I was little and I saw a homeless person I would give him socks. So that's what it reminded me of and that's why I came."
Connie Hernandez said she was just overwhelmed by the response and that she is extremely proud of her daughter.
"Sometimes, it just takes a little kid to want to organize it and people are all over it," said Hernandez. "I'm very happy with the outturn. This is really going to help a lot."
Kayli's benefit garage sale will continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon at 122 Shearer Hills.
"I'm hoping for a lot of money to help the homeless," said Kayli Hernandez.
