Strong winds cause minor damage, power outages in San Antonio

Wind advisory, red flag warnings in effect

Strong winds caused some minor damage and power outages as a cold front blew into the San Antonio area on Tuesday morning.

The wind knocked down several tree branches in the 1300 block of Theo and snapped a power line, causing a power outage.

According to a CPS Energy map, more than 2,000 outages were reported Tuesday morning. As of noon, only 19 outages remained that affected about 89 customers.

High winds were also blamed for peeling the portion of a metal building roof at Austin Elementary School in the 600 block of West Euclid Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Damage was also reported to the front side entrance to an office building in the 15600 block of San Pedro Avenue.

As of 1:30 p.m., winds had subsided to 13 mph, but a wind advisory remained in effect until 6 p.m. for the San Antonio area. A red flag warning was also in effect until 8 p.m.

The winds were expected to calm further tonight, setting the stage for temperatures to dip into the mid-30s.
