This year's NIOSA poster was unveiled Thursday at a reception at the Casa Villita for NIOSA, Society and Fiesta dignitaries.

Designed by renowned local artist Debra Benditz, the 2013 NIOSA poster was unveiled by NIOSA Chairman Kathy DeWaal and Conservation Society President Nancy Avellar at the reception.

Titled the "Cornucopia of Culture," the poster was created by Benditz, owner of Debra Benditz Art Studios in La Villita.

The poster is now on sale at the NIOSA office, on the NIOSA website, and at Sigoloff's Frame and Art at 8222 Broadway.

"Not only does Debra share my love of vibrant colors, but she's definitely the appropriate NIOSA poster artist because her studio is in La Villita—the home of NIOSA and two Conservation Society properties," said DeWaal. "We know she appreciates La Villita's beautiful setting—and how the Conservation Society continues to restore its phenomenal historic buildings and amenities—as much as we do."

NIOSA says the 12" by 16" vertical poster costs $45 and only 200 posters have been produced. If any are still available, posters will be sold during NIOSA on the front porch of the NIOSA office at 227 S. Presa.

Benditz will attend NIOSA every night to personally sign the posters while supplies last. Notecards and postcards with the NIOSA poster artwork can also be purchased at NIOSA in Frontier Town's "Post Office" booth.

"With 2013 being the 65th anniversary of NIOSA, I thought it would be great to capture the energy of its festivities with images that symbolically represent its unique 15 cultural areas, and even some of its history," said Benditz. "It was so much fun to incorporate everything from the clover of Irish Flat and the edelweiss of Sauerkraut Bend, to the saxophone of Froggy Bottom."

The 2013 NIOSA cloisonné medal was designed by DeWaal, herself an artist. The medals are available for $10 at the NIOSA office, on the NIOSA website, at The Fiesta Store on Broadway and in NIOSA's souvenir booths.

NIOSA says Benditz will also sign posters at Sigoloff’s Frame and Art from 2 – 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 20.

NIOSA occurs April 23-26 from 5:30 to 10:30 pm nightly during the city's 11-day Fiesta celebration. For more information, call 226-5188 or click here.
