Crash shuts down I-35 in southwest San Antonio

A crash early Friday morning shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 35 for a short time and sent at least one person to the hospital.

Bexar County deputies responded to the wreck just after 3 a.m. on I-35 North near Benton City Road on the Southwest Side.

Details were vague regarding the crash, but deputies initially received word it involved a wrong-way driver and several vehicles.

Deputies said a wrecked SUV an overturned car were at the scene upon arrival. The impact of the crash caused the car's door to fly off.

At least one person was hospitalized, however, an update was not released on the person's condition.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Interstate 35 North was closed during cleanup, but reopened around 5 a.m. Friday.
