2 motorcyclists killed hours apart on San Antonio highway

1 motorcyclist run over, other plunges 26 feet off elevated highway

Two motorcyclists died in separate crashes on U.S. 281 late Thursday night into Friday morning, San Antonio police said.

The first fatal crash was reported just after 9 p.m. on the far north side on 281 near Encino Rio.

Police said the motorcyclist, identified Friday afternoon as Erik Jacob Saucedo, 29, was headed southbound and lost control of the bike. He managed to lay down the motorcycle, but was struck by two passing cars, police said.

Police did not believe speed was a factor, but said the lack of lighting in the area may have made it difficult for drivers to avoid Saucedo.

The drivers that struck Saucedo stopped to render aid. Police said they will not face charges.

Motorcyclist falls off elevated highway

A short time later, another motorcyclist was killed in a crash just north of downtown San Antonio on 281 at Grayson Road.

According onto San Antonio police, Joshua Kalib Landers, 29, was riding with another motorcyclist north on 281 when, just after midnight, he lost control of his bike and was thrown over his handlebars, plunging off the elevated highway 26 feet to the Pearl Parkway parking lot below.

Accident investigators said he was not wearing his helmet and suffered massive head trauma. He died at the scene.

The motorcycle continued another 100 feet before it came to a stop.

The other motorcyclist was not injured and told police the victim hit a battery on the road and lost control.
