Suspected drunken driver crashes with 5 children in car

Driver arrested on suspicion of DWI after crash on S. New Braunfels, children not hurt

A woman suspected of driving drunk was arrested after she crashed a car with five children inside, San Antonio police said.

Police received a call for an accident that involved a pedestrian around 9:30 p.m. Sunday near South New Braunfels and Pecan Valley.

Officers arrived and said the woman was backing up her car when she mistakenly hit the gas pedal and drove through a fence at the San Antonio State Hospital, then crashed in a ditch.

Police found the children unharmed, and said a male passenger had stumbled out of the vehicle before the crash.

Police believe the passenger was intoxicated as well, but he was not expected to face charges.

The female driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
