Teen driver facing intoxication assault charges
SAPD: Matthew Salazar, 19, crashed SUV head-on into other car, injures 3 people
A San Antonio teen is facing intoxication assault charges in connection with a head-on collision Thursday night in northeast San Antonio that left three people hospitalized, including a 12-year-old.
Police said Matthew Salazar, 19, was driving a 2004 white Ford Expedition east on Walzem Road when he crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic, striking a 2002 Nissan Sentra head-on.
The Sentra was driven by Rene Perez, 23. A 12-year-old boy was in the passenger seat. He was taken to University Hospital. Perez was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center. Accident investiagtors said they both suffered life-threatening injuries.
Salazar's passenger, 19-year-old Erica Palacios, was also taken to SAMMC with life-threatening injuries.
Salazar was detained at the scene and refused medical treatment by EMS, but was taken to University Hospital for treatment and a mandatory blood draw.
He could face three counts of intoxication assault.
