SAN ANTONIO - A husband and wife say a landscaper cashed their check for work he never completed.

Linda and Tom Friedrich said they made their first call to Edwin Roche of E&L Pro Lawn Care in November.

Having had their pool installed, they were planning for a limestone retaining wall as well as landscaping around the pool and perimeter of the backyard.

"I had everything designed for him and all he had to do was work off a plan we had," Friedrich said.

The Friedrichs said their second meeting with Roche was on Dec. 1st, the same day they wrote him a check for $2,700.

Roche requested that amount upfront as a deposit for materials, the Friedrichs said.

The following Thursday he failed to show up, calling instead to say he would make it out Monday.

"Monday comes and goes and we call and we don't get him, we don't get anybody. There's no one answering the phone," Friedrich said.

A couple days later, on December 10th, a final call from one of Roche's employees reporting Roche was having health issues.

"We kept trying to call his home and the number we had for his office and we couldn't ever reach anyone," said Friedrich.

When the Defenders contacted Roche, he confirmed he was having health problems, explaining someone running his company took off with the money.

He also admitted there were others in the same situation and assured us he would refund $1,200 dollars of the money owed on Wednesday.

"If he needed more time to get our refund, we would've understood, but I have a feeling that's not the case," Friedrich said.

Roche did not follow up with the Defenders or refund any money as stated.

In addition to E&L Pro Lawn Care, Roche has also done business under the name Edscape.
