San Antonio man dragged in fatal hit-and-run accident

Pedestrian struck by SUV on Pleasanton Road

A man died after he was struck by a passing SUV and then dragged along a south San Antonio road early Monday morning.

The victim, a man believed to be in his 60s, was crossing the street in the 3000 block of Pleasanton Road when he was struck by a large SUV, police said.

The SUV dragged the victim for 200-250 feet before fleeing the scene.

"It looks like the vehicle hit a curb, dislodging the victim from the vehicle," Sandy Gutierrez, spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department, said.

Police said they found a Chevrolet emblem at the scene. They believe the vehicle involved was either a Tahoe or Suburban.

"If there is a vehicle, an SUV of some sort, that before yesterday or before this morning didn't have any front-right damage, any windshield damage at all, and now they do, that would be suspicious," Gutierrez said.

The victim's name has not been released.

Police ask anyone with information to call the traffic investigation unit at 207-7385.

The driver responsible faces charges for failure to stop and render aid, a third-degree felony that could land whoever was behind the wheel in jail for two to 10 years.
