Scooter Store laying off 1,600+

Furloughs permanent for most employees

11 days after receiving furlough notices, most of the approximately 1,800 New Braunfels employees of The Scooter Store learned Tuesday they will be laid off at the end of the month.

The message came in an email from CEO Martin J. Landon, which multiple former employees sent to KSAT-12 Tuesday evening.

Of the nearly 1,800 people employed by the company in New Braunfels, all but 117 will be permanently laid off at the end of March but paid only through March 8, when the initial furlough notices were sent.

The company has retained about 300 employees including the 117 in New Braunfels and the rest in the field.

The letter, which you can read in its entirety below, informs employees that the company has reached a deal with lenders to fund core operations as the company moves to create a more streamlined business model.

The laid off employees will receive official termination notices in the mail later this month.
