San Antonio police officer injured during foot chase

Officer chasing suspect who opened fire on Iowa Street


A San Antonio police officer was injured while chasing a man accused of firing a dozen gunshots in an East Side neighborhood.

Police said a gang unit patrolling the area heard between 12 to 15 shots just before 10 p.m. in the 800 block of Iowa Street.

An officer saw the the suspect with the gun in a backyard and began to give chase.

The officer caught the suspect, but injured his knee after he jumped a fence, San Antonio police said.

The injured officer was taken to the hospital for treatment, but was expected to be OK.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a weapon and deadly conduct.

It was unknown why the suspect began to open fire in the area. No other injuries were reported.
