What’s a ‘vampire facelift’?

The term “vampire facelift” is a term trademarked by a physician that involves neither vampires nor a facelift.

This procedure involves using a person’s own blood to create a product to help give your face a youthful appearance. A sample of a person’s blood is drawn and processed in platelet rich plasma (PRP). According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the PRP can then be injected into a person’s wrinkles.

The ASPS said PRP is typically combined with a dermal filler to achieve facial rejuvenation.

According to the ASPS, orthopedic surgeons have been using PRP to treat sports injuries in patients. Research shows PRP can be useful in healing wounds.
