Maid accused of stealing from homes she cleaned

Police: Yvonne Montes used Craigslist to find victims

Police arrested a maid they said stole from many of the homes she cleaned Wednesday.

Yvonne Montes, 31, was arrested Wednesday by property crimes detectives working out of the Prue substation.

Police said she stole nearly $27,000 worth of items, including iPads and jewelry, which she later pawned.

Montes would find potential victims by posting ads for her cleaning services on Craigslist, according to police.

“Make sure that when you hire people you don’t know, you’re hiring them from a reputable company,” said San Antonio policeOfficer Matt Porter. “Or at least make sure they can provide references for their work, so you can avoid this type of situation.”

Police believe there could be more victims out there, and have asked anyone who recognizes her to come forward.

Montes has been charged with three counts of felony theft between $1,500 and $20,000.
