Arizona Daily Star: Tuscon, Ariz., super to take over SAISD
Manuel L. Isquierdo superintendent at Sunnyside Unified
SAN ANTONIO - The Arizona Daily Star is reporting that the superintendent in charge of the second-largest school district in Tucson, Ariz., is resigning in order to take the position of superintendent at the San Antonio Independent School District.
Sunnyside Unified Superintendent Manuel L. Isquierdo announced his resignation on Friday, a day after SAISD officials offered Isquierdo the job.
There has been no formal announcement made by Isquierdo or SAISD, but, citing multiple anonymous sources, the Daily Star reports Isquierdo will likely remain through the end of the school year.
SAID has been helmed by Dr. Sylvester Perez since March 2012 after former Superintendent Dr. Robert Duron resigned on Feb. 20, 2012.
KSAT has reached out to SAISD officials for confirmation.
The school board is convening Monday evening to discuss superintendent candidates.
School board president Ed Garza said the Daily Star article was published prematurely but that the board may not name a finalist at their meeting.
