Man arrested in fatal Von Ormy shooting

Johnathan Alexander Avila arrested in murder of Terrell Stephens


A man identified as Johnathan Alexander Avila, 19, has been arrested in the fatal shooting of Terrell Stephens at a December party in Von Ormy.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office announced Avila's arrest on Monday.

According to a statement issued by BCSO, deputies responding to a shooting at a Dec. 8, 2012, party in the 4400 block of Countess Street in Von Ormy.

They found Stephens lying in the middle of the road with a gunshot wound to his head. They also found a 13-year-old girl -- who appeared to have been shot in the face -- lying the driveway. A third man, identified as Anthony Trevino, was also shot int he back as he was running away from the shooting.

Investigators said Trevino and the 13-year-old girl survived.

A murder warrant was issued for Avila and BCSO detectives worked in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexican authorities to bring Avila back to Texas to face charges.

Avila was arrested and booked over the weekend on a charge of murder and is currently in the Bexar County Jail on $250,000 bond.

Avila also has an unrelated bond of $40,000 for possession.

Charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on the 13-year old-girl and Trevino are pending.
