Murder suspect captured in Mexico
Johnathan Alexander Avila wanted for shooting death at Von Ormy party
A 19-year-old wanted in the shooting death of Terrell Stephens, 22, has been captured in Mexico.
Johnathan Alexander Avila is accused of shooting Stephens, Anthony Trevino, and a 13-year-old girl at a December party in the 4400 block of Countess in Von Ormy.
Trevino and the girl survived the shooting.
According to Stephens’ family, the shooting happened during a fight that Stephens was attempting to break up.
“He was just always there for everybody, always there to help everybody out,” said Amora Stephens, the victim’s sister. “It was, I guess, a party that people invited people who invited people. It was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Avila was arrested over the weekend with the help of the U.S. Marshalls Service and Mexican authorities, and is currently being held at the Bexar County Jail on a $250,000 bond, as well as an unrelated bond of $40,000 for possession.
Charges are pending for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on the 13-year-old girl and Trevino.
