Man guilty in business partner's shooting death

Anthony Johnson accused in fatal shooting of business partner Romauld Ngande

A rap music producing business in financial trouble ended in murder. And now the man accused has been found guilty.

According to defense attorney Mike Hoyle, Anthony Johnson, 21, and his partner Romuald Ngande, also 21, the men’s rap music promotion business was in trouble.

“They were not living the dream. They were living in a dream,” Hoyle said during closing arguments in Johnson’s murder trial on Tuesday.

Johnson admitted he shot Ngande to death but insisted he fired one shot from an assault rifle in self-defense.

The man had been arguing in the apartment they shared on Nov. 15, 2011.

The argument, Johnson testified on Monday, grew heated and included verbal threats made by Ngande.

He said that he feared his partner would attack him with a razor he often carried.

When Ngande approached him, he said, he fired the weapon.

“Verbal provocation is not enough to justify what the defendant did in his so-called self-defense,” prosecutor Wendy Wilson-Ortiz told the jury.

“It doesn’t make any sense and it is not supported by the physical evidence,” she said.

Punishment phase for the trial begins Wednesday at 10 a.m.
