Home for Haiti: Day 1

Steve Spriester chronicles his trip to Haiti to help build home

It's a place that stays with you. Last week a group of us traveled to Haiti to help build a home for a family who lost theirs in an earthquake. South Texans donated thousands to the effort.

From the very beginning the damage from the earthquake 3 years ago is obvious, but so is the country's warmth and its very real need. From the moment we arrived we witnessed the beauty of Haiti and it's scars.

In the Day 1 report we chronicle the trip through the Port Au Prince, on the way to Leogane. Leogane was the epicenter of the January 2010 quake.

We travel to the home on motorcycles and get our first look at the build site. The next day we start construction on the roof, it is a journey none of us will forget.
