Suspect arrested after west side car chase
Witnesses said man was driving with baby in the car
SAN ANTONIO - One man was taken into police custody Saturday afternoon after leading officers on a car chase.
It happened around 4:30 p.m. near St. Mary's University on the city's west side.
Police pursued the man's Chevy pick-up truck along Culebra Road before he turned into a residential area.
The chase ended on Brandywine Avenue where the suspect was taken into custody. Police have not released his identity.
Witnesses said the man hit several vehicles during the chase.
Dwayne Felix was driving with his two children in the car when he found himself in the middle of the chase.
"Police was chasing him from behind and as he was turning the corner, he hit two vehicles. I just happened to back out and squeeze through the traffic and avoid being hit myself," said Felix. "It was very crazy, especially with the two little kiddos in the car, and apparently the other couple of vehicles that got hit as well had kids in the vehicle."
Multiple witnesses said the suspect had a baby in the car with him during the chase, but as of Saturday night police had yet to confirm that.
It's unknown why the man fled from officers.
