Vigil held for slain San Antonio store owner

Friends gathered to pay tribute to Farouk Haifa, owner of Stanley's Ice Station

SAN ANTONIO - With a killer still on the loose, friends of a convenience store owner murdered inside Stanley’s Ice Station paid tribute Tuesday evening to the man they called, “Frank.”

Farouk Haifa, 52, was found dead inside the store Monday morning.

Those who knew him said Haifa was always smiling, friendly and helpful to everyone.

“It’s a senseless murder,” said Elsa Saenz. “Frank would give the shirt off his back for you. All you had to do is ask if you needed something.”

“The community, the whole neighborhood, loved him and loved the family,” said Michael Fonseca.

San Antonio police have not named a suspect in the killing.
