Oyster Bake 2013 Friday, Saturday

Food, music, fun starts of popular Fiesta event

SAN ANTONIO - A popular Fiesta event is now in full swing.

Oyster Bake 2013 kicked off on Friday on the grounds of St. Mary's University.

Organizers said they were expecting thousands of people on Friday and Saturday and that they were pleased with the nice weather.

This year, Oyster Bake Chairman Mike Martinez said they are boasting a new main stage, which is a new amphitheater-type area around the baseball fields.

There's also several other stages with live music, activities for the kids and, of course, plenty of food.

"What you find at Oyster Bake is anything on a stick," said Martinez. "We got chicken on a stick and of course, we have our oysters. We got oysters three ways. We got fried oysters, we got baked oyster, oyster shots."

All proceeds from Oyster Bake go toward scholarships.

Organizers said they have been able to offer about 234 scholarships every year.

The cost to get in is $20 on Friday and $20 on Saturday, plus the cost of food and drinks.
