Robbery suspects arrested after stabbing, chase in south San Antonio

Suspects crashed vehicle after fleeing San Antonio police

Four robbery suspects were taken into custody following a stabbing and short police chase in southeast San Antonio Tuesday night.

San Antonio police and paramedics responded to a call for an assault at the Encinal Apartments in the 400 block of Utopia Lane just after 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

EMTs found a 53-year-old victim with multiple stab wounds. Witnesses gave descriptions of some of the suspects and the white Ford Explorer they left in.

As police patrolled the area looking for the suspects, a vehicle matching the description was found three blocks south on Lasses.

Sgt. Trey Roussel with SAPD said before the patrol car could confirm it was the suspects, the vehicle sped up, lost control and crashed.

"We could see him fishtailing on Goliad here as he was trying to get away," said Roussel. "He struck a fence across the street and lost control and ended up crashing."

Two of the suspects stayed in the vehicle and were arrested immediately. Two other suspects attempted to flee on foot and were caught a few blocks away.

The stabbing victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition and possibly faced surgery, according to Roussel.

Inside the vehicle, police found electronics that witnesses saw them take from the victim's apartment.

They also found a gold necklace which a woman had reported stolen earlier in the evening from a nearby pizza restaurant.

Her description of the suspects matched two of the people arrested at the crash.

The names of the suspects, a woman and three men, have not been released. Police said they all face felony robbery charges.
