SAN ANTONIO - After being briefed on Pre-K 4 SA's first week of enrollment, Mayor Julian Castro said 400 families shows the kind of robust response he expected.
He and San Antonio City Councilmembers heard an update on the city's month-long enrollment period as the first two education centers are readied to open Aug. 1.
"We're very encouraged by the enrollment numbers thus far, and we just started," said Elaine Mendoza, the program's board chair.
Mendoza said 700 first-year slots will be filled by lottery in June.
But she said the goal is to enroll twice that number to include a waiting list.
Also with two more centers opening next year, Mendoza said, "We want to increase that pool and generate interest."
