SAN ANTONIO - The all-clear has been given at a Northside Independent School District elementary campus where a suspicious package with threatening notes was found Wednesday morning.

NISD spokesman Pascual Gonzalez said cafeteria staff at Michael Elementary found the package before school started.

It was not immediately known what the package contained or what the notes said.

"I'm surprised. I didn't think all of this would have happened. I'm just feeling kind of scared right now," said Giselle Ortega, a third-grader at the school.

"I was scared, because I didn't want my mom to be worrying about me, and then when I called her, I felt, like, so relieved," said Isaiah Mora, a fifth-grader.

Gonzalez said students were kept at the far end of the school, which is located near Loop 410 and Highway 90, while the object was tested.

Some parents felt that the students should have been kept further away.

"A better solution would have been to drive the kids out or never let the bus come in," Shirley Cervantes said.

The all-clear was issued at 8:45 a.m. The district reported that parents picked up 65 students afterward, but even more parents went to see their kids and comfort them, then let them return to the normal school day.

"Even though they gave the OK, just the assurance of seeing him. Like I said, everything that's going on nowadays. Just looking at him, I'll be able to go and be OK throughout my day," Erin Mora said.
